The compatibility table decides the menu

Categorical opens column, bar, pie, donut, funnel, treemap and radial bar. Series opens clustered and stacked column, clustered and stacked bar, line, area, stacked area, combo and radar. Scatter opens two. Table opens two. Gauge and KPI open one each.

Switching costs nothing downstream

The chosen renderer is its own column beside the shape. Saving a different one writes that column and the already-resolved payload is handed to a different component. No SQL is rebuilt and no aggregate runs twice.

Column and bar appear under two shapes

One category with one measure and one category with several are different payloads that happen to share a silhouette. The dispatcher reads the shape, then the name, and picks between two distinct components with different stacking, legend and click behaviour.

Three of them read a nesting rather than a list

Sunburst, Sankey and treemap hang off the hierarchy shape, whose resolver returns parents with their children rather than a flat set of categories. Treemap appears under the categorical shape as well, where the nesting is one level deep and a tile is simply a category.

Group by day through year, by equal-width bands, or by breakpoints you set, each band carrying a sort key so the axis reads in bucket order.
